The recent blast that killed six people in Shivamogga district is a sad pointer to unbridled illegal quarrying and stone crushing happening in the state. No government has so far succeeded in ending the menace and the 2018 report of the state mines and geology department underlines the severity — there are about 30,000 such violations.
